Deciding Which Christmas Flowers to Decorate With
Poinsettias are seen everywhere during Christmas, mostly in vibrant shades of red. Though poinsettias are grown in a variety of colors, red is still the favorite color among consumers during the holidays and the red poinsettia has become the quintessential Christmas Flower. First discovered in Mexico, this vibrant flower has become a beautiful mainstay of Christmas decoration.

Poinsettias make not only great decorations during the holidays as they bloom in November and December, but they also make great gifts. During the winter, poinsettias thrive when they are kept in doors, sharing their bright colors at a time of the year when most other plants perish or become dormant. By sharing a poinsettia with someone you are giving them a beautiful symbol of the holidays.
While poinsettias are often sold by themselves, getting a flower arrangement with other Christmas Flowers in them as well can help add variety to your decorations. Consider using white and red flowers in the rose, chrysanthemum or carnation varieties to add some diversity to your holiday flower arrangements to set them apart from everyone else’s. Accent your arrangements with pine boughs, holly or other holiday greenery to give it a festive Christmas look.
If you really love poinsettias and do not want to wait until Christmas to give them, you have a perfect reason to buy and give poinsettias on December 12th. The original poinsettia pioneer, Joel Poinsett, coincidentally died two weeks before Christmas in 1851. To celebrate how he brightened our holiday celebrations, the United States Congress took that day and made it National Poinsettia Day. Therefore, you can have a great reason to give beautiful poinsettia arrangements twice in one month! Poinsettia growers encourage everyone to buy at least one plant on this day and set them up where all can admire their beauty.
If you don’t have the time to do flower arrangements yourself, consider ordering them from online sellers. While you are looking at flowers for yourself or for gifts, consider ordering Christmas Gift Baskets as well. These make great gifts for friends and acquaintances and can be found with fruits, candies, coffees or wines and cheeses. In the bustle of the holiday season, you may want to consider ordering a Christmas Gift Basket for yourself and using it as a centerpiece in order to save you the trouble of having to create one from scratch.
